Tasting Notes

Ktima Kir-Yianni Diaporos 2011

PGI Imathia, Macedonia, Greece

Medium garnet fading towards the rim. Intense nose of red cherry, sour cherry, blackberry, strong spices – black pepper, ripe tomatoes, sweet spices – cinnamon. Oak is obvious and perfectly integrated – cedar, smoke. Not as complex as I was hoping – some meaty notes, vaguely leathery. Big bitter tannins, yet ripe. High acidity, full body. Persistent flavours of strawberry, sour cherry, sweet spices – cinnamon, black pepper, ripe tomato, red cherry, blackberry in the mouth. 14.5% alcohol. A classic Xinomavro, with pleasant spicy intrusions from Syrah.
